One more day to finish stripping #00136 the 18th Dino 206 to leave the factory. The fiberglass was a real P.I.T.A. to get out as there were way more pieces than a 206 and 10X the rivets. It looked like they were improvising as they went along, very crude. In my opinion it is really a must to go to the extra effort and remove the fiberglass, there is just so much grit and grime and rust that you would never get out without removing it all. Also the factory used wood shims in many places that just soak up moisture and remain wet all the time spreading corrosion around it. I hope to remove the last pits and pieces on Monday, pick up another rotisserie and have it to the blasters by the end of next week. This one is going to take some time as I have a number of projects to start and finish before I can get back to this. It does get it out of my shop for awhile and will free up some space. It is much lighter than a 246 as 2 people can lift it.
Almost in Primer
The car is one week from it’s first primer. The owner has decided on the color so now I can proceed with the interior which will be black. Exterior to be yellow, it’s a question of which one as the Dino compendium shows 2 yellows with about 200 cars being done in each yellow. I need to find out if both were offered in 1974.
Today’s Progress
Carpet
The carpet arrived today from Henk! Rob is down to two exterior color choices, but with either one this is the correct choice for the carpet. This comes from HVL in the Netherlands and matches the original.
Fiberglass
Pretty much down to the last of the fiberglass. The 206 is much more difficult than the 246 to get all the various fiberglass pieces out.
It’s In Primer!
A big step as it’s now in primer!. It’s a lot or work to get it to this point, and now we are awaiting Rob’s color choice. Steve K and Beau did a great job.
Primer Tomorrow
Today I went to LA to my favorite plater and I made a stop at AC Global MFG. in Southgate, Ca. As Rob’s car needed a new AC condenser I thought I would go to source and see how they are made. I love old working factories with the sounds and the old machines. Davis Cabrera the owner who took over for his Dad gave me a tour. Then stopped at Steve’s to see the progress on the body. It was looking really good with even gaps all around and ready for primer tomorrow!!. Come on Rob, we need that color choice.
Suspension Removed
Not much left to take off, as all the suspension, brakes etc were removed today along with the steering rack.. Many differenced between a 206 and 246. The fiberglass looks much more difficult to remove, I guess I’ll find out soon! Removing the suspension is kind of a milestone as it will need to go on a rotisserie or cart.
