Final color sand and buffing before shipping.
Engine In!!
Chairs and flares is nearing completion as the last big project of installing the engine is done. All that is left is installing the door panels, installing the rear trunk lid, bleeding the brakes, adjusting doors and lids and a few minor odds and ends. It will then be color sanded and polished one more time. It leaves the first week of January along with “Barn Find” to Florida.
Ready for Engine Install
The next step this week is to reinstall the engine. It’s been running on a test stand after it’s complete rebuild running a number of heat cycles.
Interior
Chairs and Flares is moving along with carpet, trim and seats now installed. It’s looking really good!!! The Daytona seats came standard with the “Flares and Chairs”option from the factory. They made very few cars with this option which included flared fenders, wider Campagnolo wheels and leather “Daytona Seats”. These cars now command a $100,000 premium over a regular model.
Brakes and Suspension
All the wiring is in and everything hooked up that can be done now. With the wiring done and the hydraulics I worked on suspension today getting everything assembled on the car including the brakes. Always nice when it can come off the lift if necessary. Tomorrow starts interior.
More Reassembly
Reassembly continues with the wiring currently going in. Tomorrow it moves from the rotisserie to the lift.
Heat and Noise
I put 1 inch closed cell foam between the fiberglass and the bottom floor pan as well as on the back firewall between the fiberglass and the aluminum heat shield. It helps with heat and noise.
First Day of Reassembly
The first day of reassembly! This time I’m putting more parts on before the fiberglass tub and inner fenders, as I think there will be easier access without having to lean on the car body. I also had Brad leave the doors off to hang at a later time. This is the most satisfying part of the job as it all comes together totally clean, one part at a time.
