Work is moving forward. This past week I took a break from refurbishing parts and actually put a few on the car. I reinstalled the 2 piece tub and riveted in place. Fiberglassing the seems to follow. I reinstalled the rear inner fenders which are a little tricky to get back in lining up the old rivet holes. Next is the pedal board which is a straight forward task, then the steering. I learned from last time to make sure all the parts easily slide together easily before you install. You need to start from the steering rack and individually slide each part in place working towards the steering wheel. I also stripped the aluminum gas tanks with aircraft paint stripper and a power washer. They cleaned up fairly easy. On the bottom of the pedal board there is a ring nut which socket is difficult to find but is a Ferrari tool FR 104. Luckily my friends at Cavallo Motorsorts in Carlsbad loaned me one. A decision has to be made soon on weather or not to replace the wiring harness as it is one of the first thing that need to be installed.
Gear positions with open gearbox
Here are the positions of each gear
Putting together the gearbox and pedal board
I haven’t posted for awhile, but work has been progressing. The gearbox is back together and engine assembly starts next week. I’ve put the pedal board back together and am working on the steering. I labeled the gears in the photos, I hope they’re correct.
Putting bushings in rods
The gearbox is ready now ready to be reassembled and as soon as my camshafts arrive after a little rework at megacycles the engine will be ready. I put new small bushed in the rods and the next project is steering.
Taking apart the differential
Finishing the carbs
Taking apart the gearbox
I sort of have 3 major projects on the Dino going on. The carbs are apart and I’m awaiting on a few more parts to arrive then I’ll finish cleaning and put them back together. I have a few more parts for the engine that I’m also waiting for and then it’s basically ready to put together. Today I took apart the gearbox cleaned everything and am determining what parts to replace. My hands are full right now.
A couple imperfections discovered
Back from Italy, what a great trip. The work on the Dino is slowly progressing. I’m still getting the last parts together. I discovered a small imperfection on one of the camshafts, so I had to send that out. Then on closer examination of the pistons there was a small dent from the valve on one piston. Waiting for all new pistons to arrive. While waiting I decided to start on my favorite job, the carbs.
