My second build is done and time to show off! This was built starting with a 73 911, with metal flares, bumpers, and aluminum hood and handmade ducktail. No fiberglass was used. It has 930 turbo trailing arms and brakes with elephant racing bits and pieces. It has a front oil cooler and under fender oil cooler. External oil filler with custom machined cap. I used an extra large 25 litre center fill fuel tank with custom machined cap. 15×9 and 15×11 braid wheels with Michelin TB 15 tires. It’s powered by a 3.5 litre Rothsport faux MFI but is actually EFI producing 350 HP. It coupled with a Euro 915 transmission with a Wevo short shift. Interior is Alcantara dash, headliner and other pieces. The livery was designed by the renowned car designer Freeman Thomas as a tribute to the 70 era Porsche 917 which was commonly referred to as the Hippie car. The livery along with all logo is painted using no vinyl. The paint job was done by Brad Diez at Speedzone paint. Those are the basics of the car with many more custom parts and touches. With 350 HP and weighing 2300 pounds it’s incredibly fast and a thrill to drive. Today was its first outing.
Interior Progress
More progress on the “hippie” car. Interior started and will be done in a few days. It should be ready to send off to Rothsport racing for a 3.5 MFI/EFI 350 HP motor!
More assembly
More assembly, Wevo front camber adjusters, Battery relocation to smugglers box,110 liter fuel tank, color matched side mirrors and custom oil and fuel caps.
Suspension and more
Working on getting the suspension on and the brakes. Also the oil coolers, lines and tank. Using Von shocks, 930 brake calipers and Elephant racing oil lines and coolers. 930 Trailing arms.
Back from the paint shop
My second RSR project just got back from the paint shop. My friend Freeman Thomas did the design to mimic the 917 “Hippie” race car. We started reassembly today. The motor will be like the first one I did with a Rothsport 3.5 motor. It looks totally MFI but it is stealth EFI, by looking at it you would never know.
Primer and body work
The cars are coming along. One has been primed and ready to paint and another is getting final sanding.
Some updates on 2 and 3
#2 is now ready for one more light blast and epoxy primer. It then goes to speedworks in Santee for paint. Brad had been doing all my Ferrari Dinos for years so this will be a change of pace. #3 is very close to having all the metal work also
To the paint shop
Tomorrow it goes on the trailer to the paint shop. We put some temporary lettering on the back so no one would get confused what it is..
