    Welcome to Dino Restoration

The car left today for metal work, body and paint. The car is in Costa Mesa at a very small shop and will be there for the next 3 or 4 months. I still haven’t chosen a color and go back and forth on several colors. I did a spray out in Celeste and considered this because of it rarity on a Dino. It is similar to Azzuro except it has a touch of green and a little lighter. Also Viola and Grigio Ferro are considerations amongst some others. HELP!!!!

Looks like I’m the same point as Tom C. The body is back from the blaster primed with DP90. It’s going to need a little metal work, but overall not bad. Also been stripping the fiberglass of all the undercoating. That’s the worst job of the whole project.

The body is at the blasters and almost done. I checked it out today and there aren’t to many warts. It’s had some damage to the drivers door and the rest minor stuff. we decided to do the engine first so we started taking it apart. We were going to split the gearbox but I was MISSING the special socket to undo the nuts on the gears at the end of the bell housing, so we just took off what we could get to. For fun we set up a video camera and we are doing a time lapse video of taking the engine apart.

yellow scuderia targa trophy rally

This was my first Scud, I ordered from Ferrari of San Diego.  Shortly after I got it I did the Targa Trophy Rally, 400 miles in San Diego back country.  I had no idea what I was getting myself into!  I could not believe the speed or number of tickets given (none to me).  A Carrera GT was badly damaged and a 430 Spider caught fire. My car had a lot of rock damage, windshield was wasted etc. Luckily Ferrari of San Diego had a white one that just came in and the owner backed out.  I did a trade and all was good!

The car is completely stripped now. We stripped the doors today which I think is the hardest part of the whole car. I had never removed the doorglass from a coupe so i wasn’t exactly sure how to get it out. It is way more difficult than a GTS. I’m not sure if I did it exactly right, but everything is out. I’m sure I’ll be asking questions when I have to reassemble in a year or two. I took step by step pictures so if anyone knows an easier way to remove the glass please chime in.

We finished stripping the shell today and now everything is stripped except the doors. For anyone restoring their car I highly recommend removing ALL the fiberglass parts. They come out quite easily and after we removed them we had a pile of rusty nasty looking debris which would still be trapped if we stopped short of removing the fiberglass. The tub pieces are only riveted on with some strips of fiberglass covering the seems. The fiberglass strips peel right off exposing the rivets. The inner fenders are also only riveted on. With me and Jeff we removed all the fiberglass parts in about 4 hours. It will be going to the blaster soon!
