Ferrari Dino on a rotisserie, Dino restoration, Jon Gunderson

With the rear suspension out I put the car on the rotisserie so I could remove the floor pan and power wash all the gunk out. I think as of now this is about as far as we are going on disassembly, unless I hear differently from the owner.

Dino 246 Fuel Tank. Dino gauges, Dino interior, dino restoration, ferrari dino

Much progress today as the interior was removed, the fuel tanks, all the side glass and other odds and ends. Tomorrow the front and rear windscreen and all the suspension. This is not a 100% strip but we are getting pretty close. Then there is always the question where to stop. You always find more to do such as the heater boxes today which I’ll need to do, broken fuel tank straps I’ll have to make, window cables in a rats nest and few other items that weren’t on the list. I should finish up by the end of the week, then off to paint and body.
A few interesting things today as I’ve never seen USA painted on the fuel tanks and also the body parts which are #600 seem very early for the serial # of the car.

Ferrari Dino Restoration, Jon Gunderson

I started disassembly today and so far found no surprises, only a Dino that has had no maintenance for years.  All will be rectified and it will be like new.  This car was painted in the late seventies or early eighties to Ferrari resale red.  During this time period everyone wanted a red Ferrari.  Times have changed and most want to go back to their original colors.

Restoration starts on #03356,Ferrari Dino Restoration, Jon Gunderson

I pick up Eric’s Dino in Berkley, Ca yesterday morning and trailered it back to my hobby shop in San Diego. This is a 72 GT that was originally Silver with Black Vinyl interior. As you can see by the pictures there’s a good deal of work to do. It was painted red in 1978 over the original silver exterior. The Dino is most likely going back to Silver with either red or black leather interior. No decision has yet been made on rather to keep the USA lights or exactly how far to go on the restoration. Tomorrow stripping of parts starts and the fun begins!
