Classic air cooled Porsche 993 Turbo. One of my favorite cars and one that will be in my permanent collection. I love the proportions of the 993 and with 400 HP this car scoots!
Outing before restoration to begin
I brought it to cars and and coffee where Dino was the featured marque. About 7 or 8 nice Dino’s there.
Body and Paint
Mel’s car is back at Steve’s now that the parts have been stripped off. So now we watch the Maestro do his magic in bringing this Dino back to it’s glory. In the meantime the parts are refurbished, the chrome is done and interior redone.
Ferrari Heritage Certificate
The Ferrari Heritage certificate shows this car was delivered in Rosso Chiarro. This car has a lot of the impossible to find parts.
More grungy parts!
More parts taken off that will all need thoroughly cleaned, lubed etc. before they can go back on the car after paint. These parts are never taken off in most cosmetic restorations. Most people buy cars based on the paint and interior when there are a lot of issues that are neglected. With the price of these cars now, it is definitely worth it to spend more and do it right.
Another Journey!
Now that I’ve completed restorations of a 74 GTS and a 73 GT I thought I would try a 206 next. I bought this car as I thought it a great candidate. It only had a few owners and was very original including most of the paint, all the carpet and seats were original and had most of the very difficult parts to find. Luckily it had the original gas cap, which are impossible to find as well as the shift knob, ashtray, original wood steering wheel and other impossible parts to find. This car is a 1968 #0136 so only the 18th 206 made out of a total of 152. These are highly desirable due to limited number produced, They are all aluminum with a 2.0 liter engine. This car left Ferrari in Rosso Chiarro with black vinyl interior and red cloth inserts with gray carpeting. Just as it sits today.
206/L 246 shift gate differences
In taking apart my 206 I noticed it had a 246 shift gate. After searching everywhere with no luck, I made a batch of 10. I had them cut with a water jet and then chromed as per original.
Chrome and Stainless
There are lots of trim pieces that need either rechromed or if stainless, polished. Everything will be done on Rob’s Dino per the photos. A few parts such as emblems will be sourced new. Including lug bolts, over 50 items need to be addressed.
